Educating the whole child: mind, body, and feelings.

Two Rivers Farm School (TRFS) is a preschool that provides a unique education for young children, with a curriculum informed by Waldorf and Montessori education principles.

We Are currently accepting enrollment for Fall, 2024.

Our farm school is located in Aurora, Oregon.

Our Mission:

To provide conditions for learning that allow children the freedom and structure to explore and experience their lives in a nurturing environment.

At TRFS We Believe

  • Each child is unique.

  • Children are naturally inquisitive and want to learn.

  • Education is not a contest; each child’s learning style and pace must be respected and considered.

  • Learning to interact and engage with others in a respectful and kind manner is a cornerstone of early education.

At TRFS We Aim To

  • Support children in learning about themselves and the world around them.

  • Be sensitive to children's individual needs and interests while providing materials and opportunities so these interests can be nurtured and grow - so our children will want to know more - even feel inclined to need to know more.

  • Provide an indoor and outdoor preschool with an atmosphere that is both conducive to learning and one that offers support without unnecessary interference.

  • Foster autonomy, competence, and relatedness in each child which they can take with them into their lives as adults.

  • Create and maintain an environment where respect, caring, compassion and courage are practiced and maintained daily.

  • Foster a community between parents, teachers, and children.

Our Curriculum

Our Aurora, Oregon, farm preschool curriculum is influenced by the Waldorf and Montessori education principles and provides children with a daily rhythm between indoor and outdoor activities. Our day begins with greeting every child individually, followed by a morning circle to gather and share. Every day is unique, related to the changing seasons, flowing between free play, stories, music, games, art, and exploring nature. We pause around 10 am for a shared snack. In all of our activities, children are learning through the examples of the teachers: to treat each other with respect and kindness.

Our school is fortunate to share the space of an intentional community situated on 35 acres. Part of this acreage is dedicated to the school building, a schoolyard, and a covered play area. We also have the advantage of taking the children outside the schoolyard on walks into the property's small forest, gathering items for our nature table, visiting farm animals, harvesting nuts, making apple cider, and walking in the gardens. We go outside every day, rain or shine, and children do get dirty.

When we are inside, the preschool children are in the 'big room', engaging in imaginary play, learning how to be in a group, to care for each other, to share, and to be themselves. Our structured indoor activities include: art (watercolor painting, using block crayons, scissor work), music (playing instruments, singing, dancing), crafts (working with clay, finger knitting), cooking (making bread, drying fruit), stories (both reading, telling and through puppets) and much more.

What we ask of our parents

  • Provide snack for the class and teachers in a shared rotation

  • That your child is potty trained

  • Your children arrive and depart on time

  • Provide an appropriate outfit for the weather and a change of clothes.
